Rejoice

“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice.” Philippians 4:4

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you were not happy about the turn of events? Especially when this turn of events was through no fault of your own. I’ve been there- quite recently, in fact. We got news of a change that was coming that would be life altering for us- not horrible but rather inconvenient and not what we had been accustomed to for the last 15 years or so.

I was fussing to Glenn about it and on the verge of crying, and in the middle of my rant it just came to me that we are told to give thanks in EVERYTHING. That was a hard pill to swallow because I was thinking of all the inconveniences this situation presented. But I pulled myself together and decided to attempt to be grateful- that is one thing we know for sure is the will of God for our lives according to I Thessalonians 5:18. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

It helped…for a few days. This morning as I am trying to pray but all of the to-dos of the week are looming in my mind, I became discouraged again about this unchosen, inconvenient situation. Then another verse came- “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice.” Philippians 4:4

I need this reminder. Paul was redundant when he wrote this scripture because he knew how hard this could be for us. Not once, but twice, he tells us to rejoice. So today, I am choosing to be thankful and rejoice. I may not always understand, but I know everything in life is better when we choose to shift our perspective and be thankful and rejoice over the blessings in our life.
